The effect of hydroxyzine on treating bruxism of 2- to 14-year-old children admitted to the clinic of Bandar Abbas Children Hospital in 2013-2014. Introduction. Bruxism is to press or grind teeth against each other in non-physiologic cases, when an individual does not swallow or chew. If not treated, teeth problems, stress, mental disorders, frequent night waking, and headache is expected. This research aimed to study the effect of hydroxyzine on treating bruxism of 2- to 14-year-old children (...) admitted to the clinic of Bandar Abbas Children Hospital. Methodology. In this clinical trial, 143 children with the ages between 4-12 years were admitted to the Children Hospital and were divided randomly into test and control groups. The test group consisted of 88 hydroxyzine-treated children and the control group consisted of 55 children who used hot towels. Both groups were examined in some stages including the pre-test stages or the stage before starting treatments at two, four, and six weeks

A preliminary randomised double-blind placebo-controlled clinical trial of hydroxyzine for treating sleep bruxism in children. This is a randomised placebo-controlled clinical trial investigating the efficacy of hydroxyzine for treating parent-reported sleep bruxism in children. Participants of this trial were 30 patients randomly allocated to one of the two groups in a ratio of 1:2. One group received hydroxyzine and the other group received placebo. The outcome measures were Visual Analogue (...) Scale test and Clinical Global Severity scale. Assessments occurred at baseline and at the end of week 4. The side effects of drugs were assessed using a checklist. The number of children in the hydroxyzine and placebo groups was 21 and 9, respectively. The mean age of children in the hydroxyzine and placebo groups was 8·4(s.d. = 3·3) and 6·5(s.d. = 1·5) years, respectively. Hydroxyzine more than placebo decreased bruxism score (3·8 versus 2·2). Comparison of Avena Sativa, Vinegar, and Hydroxyzine for Uremic Pruritus of Hemodialysis Patients: a Crossover Randomized Clinical Trial. Uremic pruritus is a common complication in patients with chronic kidney disease. While its cause is not known for certain, different treatments are currently applied. This study aimed to compare the effects of Avena sativa, diluted vinegar, and hydroxyzine on the reduction of uremic pruritus. In this crossover randomized clinical trial, 23 hemodialysis (...) patients with uremic pruritus were randomly divided into 3 groups. The first group was treated with Avena sativa lotion, twice a day, for as long as 2 weeks; the second group received diluted vinegar; and the third group took hydroxyzine tablets for the same time span. After 3-day-long washout periods, the therapeutic methods were crossed over. The data were collected by a pruritus scale and a visual analogue scale, which were completed before and after the interventions.Avena sativa lotion

10. Recent clinical trials of hydroxyzine in generalized anxiety disorder. (Abstract)

Recent clinical trials of hydroxyzine in generalized anxiety disorder. Numerous clinical trials in the 1960s and 1970s have attested to the anxiolytic efficacy of hydroxyzine and its beneficial effect on sleep, as well as in reducing stress and anxiety associated with coronary disease. Experience with hydroxyzine has also shown a lack of organ toxicity and an absence of dependency. Recent controlled clinical trials with hydroxyzine have confirmed its efficacy (at a fixed dose of 50 mg (...) ) in generalized anxiety disorder--superiority over placebo on all anxiety measures from the first week with early target symptoms which are grouped in a cognitive component of anxiety. Efficacy was maintained throughout the 4 weeks of treatment and after abrupt discontinuation. In another controlled trial vs. lorazepam, hydroxyzine demonstrated greater and more rapid cognitive improvement.

The effects of nitrous oxide on behavior and physiological parameters during conscious sedation with a moderate dose of chloral hydrate and hydroxyzine. The purpose of this study was to determine differences in heart rate (HR), blood pressure (BP), peripheral oxygen saturation (pO2), expired CO2 (CO2), and behavior (using two scales) comparing nitrous oxide/oxygen (N2O) with oxygen (O2) alone in 20 children (mean age 45 +/- 5.1 months) sedated with chloral hydrate (CH) and hydroxyzine (...) in a double-blind crossover design. Administration of CH (40 mg/kg) and hydroxyzine (2 mg/kg) was held constant for each patient visit; however, N2O (50%) was administered during one visit and O2 (100%) at the other in a randomly determined manner. Physiologic and behavioral parameters were collected during eight specific procedural events (e.g., administration of local anesthesia).
