43. Puerperal uterine inversion: report of nine cases. (PubMed)

Puerperal uterine inversion: report of nine cases. Acute puerperal inversion of the uterus is considered to be rare. In one institution there were nine cases during an 11-year period, a rate of one for every 2176 vaginal deliveries. Analysis of these cases failed to identify any contributing factors occurring during the first or second stage of labour. Six cases were directly attributable to failure to administer an oxytocic preparation or, particularly, failure to await uterine contraction (...) before attempting to expel the placenta by fundal pressure or cord traction. Although active management of the third stage of labour may reduce the incidence of postpartum hemorrhage, incomplete application of its principles is extremely hazardous. Immediate uterine replacement was efficacious in seven cases, but the inadvisability of removing the placenta prior to replacement was demonstrated.

47. Cigarette smoking and risk of uterine myoma: systematic review and meta-analysis. (PubMed)

. Subgroup analysis for study design showed a small risk reduction for current and former smokers in cohort studies. A sensitivity analysis showed an inverse association between ever smoking and uterine myoma. However, given the limited number of studies in each sub-analysis, weak associations and the absence of a dose dependent effect, caution should be paid in the interpretation of these findings and further investigation are needed.Copyright © 2015 Elsevier Ireland Ltd. 53. Discordant HIF1A mRNA levels and oxidative stress in placental shares of monochorionic twins with selective intra-uterine growth restriction. (PubMed)

Discordant HIF1A mRNA levels and oxidative stress in placental shares of monochorionic twins with selective intra-uterine growth restriction. Oxidative stress is a key factor in the pathogenesis of intra-uterine growth restriction in singleton. However, its role in selective intra-uterine growth restriction (sIUGR) in monochorionic twins (MCT) is still unknown. This study explored the characteristics of oxidative stresses in the placenta shares of MCT and analyzed their possible connections (...) ). More discordant HIF1A mRNA level was detected in Group B than Group A with larger inter-twin difference (P = 0.021). The levels of MDA and 8-OHdG were significantly higher in B2 than B1 in sIUGR MCT (P < 0.05). Both the inter-twin differences of MDA and 8-OHdG were also significantly larger in Group B (P < 0.05), indicating that discordant oxidative stress existed in the placental shares of sIUGR pregnancies. Finally, MDA concentration was found inversely correlated with neonatal birth weight
