The use of carbon nanoparticles to track occult lingual lymph nodes in early-stage tongue squamous cell carcinoma. The lingual lymph nodes (LLNs) can only be detected with difficulty in early-stage tongue squamous cell carcinomas owing to the small size. Recurrence or metastasis could occur in the floor of the mouth as a result of neglecting the LLNs. The injection of carbon nanoparticles to track occult LLNs in early-stage tongue squamous cell carcinoma is presented and discussed (...) . This technique is simple and easy to use intraoperatively. If LLNs were stained black during the operation, the sublingual gland along with the fatty tissue of the floor of the mouth were removed simultaneously. 63. The influence of lymph node ratio on survival and disease recurrence in squamous cell carcinoma of the tongue. (Abstract)

The influence of lymph node ratio on survival and disease recurrence in squamous cell carcinoma of the tongue. This study was performed to report the outcomes of patients with oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) of the tongue over a 10-year period with the aim of testing the hypothesis that the lymph node ratio (LNR) has a significant influence on loco-regional recurrence. The charts of 227 patients with OSCC of the mobile tongue treated at the University Hospital of Zurich from 2003 to 2012 (...) was diagnosed in 25 patients (28%). The overall and disease-specific survival rates for the study population were 72% and 80%, respectively. Perineural invasion was identified as an independent risk factor for decreased disease-specific survival, whereas LNR was not. LNR did not show an influence on disease recurrence. Thus, its prognostic value in patients with tongue cancer remains uncertain and the decision regarding adjuvant therapy should not be made solely on the basis of LNR.Copyright © 2019

We describe a novel gene fusion, EWSR1-CREM, identified in 3 cases of clear cell carcinoma (CCC) using anchored multiplex polymerase chain reaction, a next-generation sequencing-based technique. Solitary fibrous tumour of the tongue: a series of four cases. Solitary fibrous tumour is a soft tissue tumour of mesenchymal origin. It was first described in the pleura and has since been reported in many anatomical locations. Thirteen cases in the tongue have hitherto been reported. A positive CD34 result has traditionally been used to confirm the diagnosis, although this is often non-specific to solitary fibrous tumour. To date, nuclear STAT6 expression has not been reported in solitary (...) fibrous tumour of the tongue.This paper presents a further four cases of solitary fibrous tumour of the tongue, the largest series to date. Clinical, histopathological and immunohistochemical findings are detailed, including nuclear STAT6 expression.All four cases were positive for CD34; two cases showed nuclear expression of STAT6. The present study aimed to assess the role of the mandibular second molar position and tongue space in young mature patients with OTSCC (...) second molar on the affected side and area of the tongue space were determined using coronal and axial CT images. Mann-Whitney U test analysis revealed that the location of the mandibular second molar and the area of the tongue space differed significantly between young mature patients with OTSCC and the controls.
