Butylcyanoacrylate tissue adhesive for columellar incision closure. Cosmetic outcome of the columellar incision closure in external rhinoplasty patients has been a subject of discussion. This study was conducted to assess whether tissue adhesives provide an alternative option for sutureless closure of columellar skin incisions for cases utilizing open technique rhinoplastic surgery. One hundred and one patients undergoing external rhinoplasty were randomized to either topical application (...) of butylcyanoacrylate or polypropylene sutures for columellar skin closure. Immediate closure of nephrostomy tube wounds using a tissue adhesive: a novel approach following percutaneous endourological procedures. We assessed the feasibility of immediate sealing of nephrostomy tube wounds after percutaneous surgery using a tissue adhesive.The study represents a prospective series of 27 consecutive percutaneous procedures. After nephrostographic exclusion of infrarenal urinary obstruction the nephrostomy tubes were removed and the wound edges were glued together using 2 (...) nephrolithotomy for an average stone burden of 32.6 mm. Tissue adhesion to bioactive glass-coated silicone tubing in a rat model of peritoneal dialysis catheters and catheter tunnels. Silicone peritoneal dialysis catheters do not develop tissue ingrowth, lack a mechanical barrier to periluminal bacterial migration and need cuffs for anchorage. Connective tissue growth factor stimulates fibroblast proliferation and extracellular matrix deposition in many fibrotic disorders. During their life span, leukocytes adhere transiently to one another, to other cell types, such as vascular endothelial cells, and to extracellular matrix proteins. This adhesiveness is mediated by families of specific cell surface adhesion molecules, namely, integrins, immunoglobulin superfamily molecules, and selectins. Adhesion is required for leukocyte-mediated cytotoxicity, phagocytosis, chemotaxis, and induction of lymphocyte (...) proliferation and maturation. To summarize the best available evidence for the effect of tissue adhesives (TAs) in managing traumatic lacerations in children and adults.A search was conducted using the Cochrane Controlled Trials Register, Medline, and EMBase for relevant studies. Tests of Experimental Tissue Adhesive Sealants: Analysis of Strength Effects in Relation to Tissue Adhesive Sealant Standards The sealing efficiencies (SE% = surfaces sealed/surfaces tested) of 2 experimental tissue adhesive sealants (TASs), L.C. TAS and glutaraldehyde TAS (GA TAS), were determined by applications in 12 mixed-breed pigs (weight range, 40-60 kg) that had been anticoagulated with heparin and divided into groups of 6: Group I, L.C. TAS; and Group II, GA TAS. Leaking tissue (...) , 75% in Group I and 0 in Group II (P <0.001; 95% CI, 50%-99%). For both 1st and 2nd applications on all leaking tissue surfaces, SEs were 98% in Group I and 29% in Group II (P <0.001; 95% CI, 37%-99%). These results are consistent with the hypothesis that a TAS with higher cohesive and adhesive strengths, such as L.C.
