The life expectancy for people with essential thrombocytosis is usually similar to that for people without the disease. Patients need FBCs on a regular follow-up basis. 4. Pretreatment thrombocytosis predict poor prognosis in patients with endometrial carcinoma: a systematic review and meta-analysis. (Full text)

Pretreatment thrombocytosis predict poor prognosis in patients with endometrial carcinoma: a systematic review and meta-analysis. Several previous studies have confirmed that thrombocytosis was related to reduced survival in many solid tumors. However, the prognostic significance of thrombocytosis in endometrial carcinoma (EC) was still controversy. Therefore, we conducted this study to assess the prognostic value of thrombocytosis in EC.The database including PubMed, MEDLINE, EMBASE, and Web (...) of Science was searched to explore available literature. Above all, the hazard ratio (HR), odds ratios (OR) with 95% confidence intervals (CIs) was used to investigate the correlation between thrombocytosis and overall survival (OS) and disease-free survival (DFS). Moreover, the association between thrombocytosis and patient clinicopathological characteristics was explored. Publication bias and sensitivity analysis also were conducted in this study.Overall, 11 studies involving 3439 patients were

Refractory Anemia with Ring Sideroblasts (RARS) and RARS with Thrombocytosis (RARS-T) - "2019 Update on Diagnosis, Risk-stratification, and Management". Ring sideroblasts (RS) are erythroid precursors with abnormal perinuclear mitochondrial iron accumulation. Two myeloid neoplasms defined by the presence of RS, include refractory anemia with ring sideroblasts (RARS), now classified under myelodysplastic syndromes with RS (MDS-RS) and RARS with thrombocytosis (RARS-T); now called myelodysplastic (...) /myeloproliferative neoplasm with RS and thrombocytosis (MDS/MPN-RS-T).MDS-RS is a lower-risk MDS, with single or multilineage dysplasia (SLD/MLD), <5% bone marrow (BM) blasts and ≥ 15% BM RS (≥5% in the presence of SF3B1 mutations). MDS/MPN-RS-T, now a formal entity in the MDS/MPN overlap syndromes, has diagnostic features of MDS-RS-SLD, along with a platelet count ≥450 × 10(9)/L and large atypical megakaryocytes.Mutations in SF3B1 are seen in ≥80% of patients with MDS-RS-SLD and MDS/MPN-RS-T, and strongly

6. Integrated micro/messenger RNA regulatory networks in essential thrombocytosis. (Full text)

Integrated micro/messenger RNA regulatory networks in essential thrombocytosis. Essential thrombocytosis (ET) is a chronic myeloproliferative disorder with an unregulated surplus of platelets. Complications of ET include stroke, heart attack, and formation of blood clots. Although platelet-enhancing mutations have been identified in ET cohorts, genetic networks causally implicated in thrombotic risk remain unestablished. In this study, we aim to identify novel ET-related miRNA-mRNA regulatory

Association of thrombocytosis with COPD morbidity: the SPIROMICS and COPDGene cohorts. Thrombocytosis has been associated with COPD prevalence and increased all-cause mortality in patients with acute exacerbation of COPD (AECOPD); but whether it is associated with morbidity in stable COPD is unknown. This study aims to determine the association of thrombocytosis with COPD morbidity including reported AECOPD, respiratory symptoms and exercise capacity.Participants with COPD were included from (...) two multi-center observational studies (SPIROMICS and COPDGene). Successful replantation of 2 digits in a patient with thrombocytosis after splenectomy: A case report. He underwent digital replantation the day after splenectomy (...) when life-threatening conditions had been managed. The platelet count increased to over 1,300,000/mm and post-splenectomy reactive thrombocytosis was diagnosed. The reattached fingers survived without any complication. In patients with digital amputation, replantation can be attempted, even when thrombocytosis is expected, when requested by the patient. Furthermore, the platelet count

Chronic Myeloid Leukemia with b3a3 (e14a3) Fusion: A Rare BCR/ABL Rearrangement Presenting with Thrombocytosis - Does MTHFR Polymorphism Matter Fusion of b2a2 is the most common BCR/ABL rearrangement in CML; however, absent a2 exons are very rare. We describe a case with Philadelphia-positive chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) with a very rare b3a3 (e14a3) BCR/ABL junction. To our knowledge, only 15 such cases of CML have previously been reported. These uncommon transcripts may be under-reported (...) , since RT-PCR-based assays may fail to detect these fusions due to the location of the primers and probes used. We are reporting this case for the first time which presented with MTHFR mutation and significant thrombocytosis. There is very limited information on how this genotype expresses and responds to treatment, especially to tyrosine kinase inhibitors, as compared to classic CML. Also, the relationship between MTHFR mutation and CML is not clear, although studies have been done.

19. Thrombocytosis as a Marker for Postoperative Complications in Colorectal Surgery (Full text)

Thrombocytosis as a Marker for Postoperative Complications in Colorectal Surgery Blood platelet measurement is a widely available and inexpensive test that is performed routinely. Platelets are thought to act by inducing inflammation and play a role in clotting and antimicrobial defence. A postoperative rise in the platelet count (thrombocytosis) is often dismissed as an incidental finding, but there is growing evidence to suggest that it may act as an indicator to underlying pathology (...) . It correlates with significant pyogenic infections as well as multiple malignancies. In addition to this, recent research indicates that thrombocytosis may be a useful prognostic indicator for postoperative outcomes in patients with malignancies. In patients undergoing surgery for gastric cancer, a combination of platelet count and neutrophil-to-lymphocyte (NLR) ratio collected preoperatively was shown to correlate with postoperative survival. To evaluate whether there is a positive correlation between pre
