Step 1: Select articles relevant to your search (remember the system is only optimised for single intervention studies)

Step 2: press

Step 3: review the result, and maybe amend the or if you know better! If we're unsure of the overall sentiment of the trial we will display the conclusion under the article title. We then require you to tell us what the correct sentiment is.

21. Impact of concomitant deep or superficial venous thrombosis of the legs on survival of patients with pulmonary embolism. (Abstract)

Impact of concomitant deep or superficial venous thrombosis of the legs on survival of patients with pulmonary embolism. Pulmonary embolism (PE) is a frequent cause of death and morbidity. A few studies suggest that clot burden in pulmonary artery bed is related to PE patients' survival, but the impact of concomitant deep venous thrombosis and/or thrombophlebitis (DVT) on short-term survival of PE patients remains unclear. Thus, we aimed to investigate the impact of DVT on adverse outcomes

30. Treatment for superficial thrombophlebitis of the leg. (Abstract)

Treatment for superficial thrombophlebitis of the leg. The optimal treatment of superficial thrombophlebitis (ST) of the legs remains poorly defined. While improving or relieving the local painful symptoms, treatment should aim at preventing venous thromboembolism (VTE), which might complicate the natural history of ST. This is the second update of a review first published in 2007.To assess the efficacy and safety of topical, medical, and surgical treatments in patients presenting with ST (...) or an objective diagnosis of a thrombus in a superficial vein. Two authors assessed the trials for inclusion in the review, extracted the data, and assessed the quality of the studies. Data were independently extracted from the included studies and any disagreements resolved by consensus. We identified four additional trials (986 patients), so this update considered 30 studies involving 6507 participants with ST of the legs.Treatment ranged from fondaparinux, low molecular weight heparin (LMWH), unfractionated

33. A randomized trial of dalteparin compared with ibuprofen for the treatment of superficial thrombophlebitis. (Full text)

A randomized trial of dalteparin compared with ibuprofen for the treatment of superficial thrombophlebitis. Superficial thrombophlebitis can produce pain and result in a deep vein thrombosis (DVT) if not treated. Conservative therapies including prescription of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAID) and heat have been standard care. Recently, studies have been published reporting efficacy and safety of low-molecular-weight heparin for the treatment of superficial thrombophlebitis (...) to the NSAID ibuprofen in preventing extension of superficial thrombophlebitis during the 14-day treatment period with similar relief of pain and no increase in bleeding. However, questions concerning the optimal treatment duration should be explored in future trials.© 2012 International Society on Thrombosis and Haemostasis.

Septic superficial thrombophlebitis: a major threat from a minor lesion Sites of insertion of peripheral intravenous catheters remain an important but often overlooked source of hospital-acquired septicemia and the most important source of staphylococcal septicemia. Septic superficial thrombophlebitis is characterized by severe local pain and is readily evident clinically. Care of the intravenous line can prevent this complication. To be diagnosed, it must be suspected. Treatment consists

Idiopathic recurrent superficial thrombophlebitis: treatment with fibrinolytic enhancement. Sixteen patients with idiopathic recurrent superficial thrombophlebitis were shown to have a defect of blood and tissue fibrinolytic activity. After six months' treatment with stanozolol their mean dilute blood clot lysis time and plasma fibrinogen fell significantly and the mean fibrin plate lysis area increased.
