4. How skin anatomy influences transcutaneous bilirubin determinations: an in vitro evaluation. Full Text available with Trip Pro

How skin anatomy influences transcutaneous bilirubin determinations: an in vitro evaluation. Transcutaneous bilirubinometry is an effective screening method for neonatal hyperbilirubinemia. Current transcutaneous bilirubin (TcB) meters are designed for the "standard" situation of TcB determinations on the forehead or sternum of term newborns. We hypothesize that skin anatomy can considerably influence TcB determinations in non-standard situations-e.g., on preterm newborns or alternative body

5. Preoperative Coronary Anatomy Assessment with Echocardiography and Morbidity After Arterial Switch Operation of Transposition of the Great Arteries. Full Text available with Trip Pro

Preoperative Coronary Anatomy Assessment with Echocardiography and Morbidity After Arterial Switch Operation of Transposition of the Great Arteries. In transposition of the great arteries (TGA), certain coronary patterns have been associated with major adverse events early after the arterial switch operation (ASO). We sought to determine the impact of preoperative echocardiographic (ECHO) diagnosis on the intra- and postoperative morbidity. All patients with TGA born between June 2001 and June (...) 2017 and who underwent ASO were reviewed. Data on presumed coronary anatomy (CA) preoperatively were obtained from the preoperative ECHO report. Intraoperative CA was categorized according to Yacoub classification. Major postoperative morbidity included at least one of the following: delayed sternal closure (DSC), prolonged (> 72 h) mechanical ventilation, reintubation, peritoneal dialysis (PD), ECMO, reoperation, and readmission within 30 days after surgery. 240 patients with median age of 5 days

anatomical regions. As far as cartilaginous and bony structures of the chest are concerned, the differences in the anatomy of the ribs, sternum, scapula and sternoclavicular joints have been discussed. The rich vascular network which is only fragmentarily accessible for ultrasound assessment has been briefly discussed. A comprehensive evaluation of the chest wall should include the axillary, supraclavicular, apical and parasternal lymph nodes. Their examination requires the use of elastography (...) Chest wall – underappreciated structure in sonography. Part I: Examination methodology and ultrasound anatomy Chest wall ultrasound has been awarded little interest in the literature, with chest wall anatomy described only in limited extent. The objective of this study has been to discuss the methodology of chest wall ultrasound and the sonographic anatomy of the region to facilitate professional evaluation of this complex structure. The primarily used transducer is a 7-12 MHz linear one. A 3

These injuries can have an associated mortality rate of less than 1% [ , ] as a result of associated chest injuries, such as cardiac contusion, aortic rupture, pulmonary contusion, and thoracic spine compression fractures. dimension of the body, and total sagittal dimension of the sternum in the sagittal plane were significantly different between the age groups. We evaluated the ossification centers; shape and developmental variations in the manubrium and body; direction, calcification, and termination of the xiphoid process; developmental variations in the xiphoid process; and manubriosternal and sternoxiphoidal fusion. Significant variations were observed from person to person. The anatomy and the developmental (...) Evaluation of the postnatal development of the sternum and sternal variations using multidetector CT We aimed to evaluate the postnatal development and the maturation of the sternum and sternal variations using multidetector computed tomography (MDCT). Additionally, we aimed to examine the roles of gender and age in sternal development. Two hundred and fifty patients who underwent thorax MDCT examinations were evaluated for sternal development and variations. 11. Anatomy of the Gynecomastia Tissue and Its Clinical Significance Full Text available with Trip Pro

Anatomy of the Gynecomastia Tissue and Its Clinical Significance Gynecomastia is a very common entity in men, and several authors estimate that approximately 50% to 70% of the male population has palpable breast tissue. Much has been published with regard to the etiology, diagnosis, and treatment of gynecomastia. However, the anatomy of the gynecomastia tissue remains elusive to most surgeons. The purpose of this article was to define the shape and consistency of the glandular tissue based (...) on the vast experience of the senior author (MB).Between the years 1980 and 2014, a total of 5124 patients have been treated for gynecomastia with surgical excision, liposuction, or a combination of both. A total of 3130 specimens were collected with 5% of the cases being unilateral. The specimens appear to have a unifying shape of a head, body, and tail. The head is semicircular in shape and is located more medially toward the sternum. The majority of the glandular tissue consists of a body located
