321. Spinal cord swelling in patients with cervical compression myelopathy. Full Text available with Trip Pro

Spinal cord swelling in patients with cervical compression myelopathy. Intramedullary hyperintense lesions associated with spinal cord edema on T2-weighted MR images (T2WI) are rare findings in patients with cervical spondylosis and are poorly characterized. We investigated the clinical characteristics of spinal cord edema due to cervical spondylosis (SCECS).In total, 214 patients with cervical spondylotic myelopathy who underwent surgery between April 2007 and March 2017 were divided

Disparities of OUD with increasing opioid use among vulnerable populations including women, those with Medicare insurance, tobacco use disorder, and low annual income should be explored further.© 2019 World Institute of Pain.

randomized controlled trials were included, and the methodological quality was medium-to-high in AMSTAR. All the included studies reviewed musculoskeletal disorders and reported a significantly higher total effective and cure rates in the acupotomy group for frozen shoulder, cervical spondylosis, third lumbar vertebrae transverse process syndrome, trigger finger, knee osteoarthritis, and lumbar spinal stenosis, compared to the other active control groups.Acupotomy showed promising results for some

Cost-Effectiveness of Jingshu Granules Compared to Placebo for the Treatment of Patients with Cervical Radiculopathy in China: A Decision-Tree Model Based on Randomized Controlled Trial. Objective: Traditional Chinese Medicines (TCMs), as well as physiotherapy and chemical drugs, are recommended for the treatment of cervical spondylosis by Chinese guidelines for cervical spondylosis diagnosis and treatment. The aim of this study was to evaluate whether TCM Jingshu Granules are cost-effective

328. Evaluation criteria for the assessment of occupational diseases of the lumbar spine - how reliable are they? Full Text available with Trip Pro

Evaluation criteria for the assessment of occupational diseases of the lumbar spine - how reliable are they? In 2005, the German Association of Occupational Accident Insurance Funds (DGUV) defined radiological evaluation criteria for the assessment of degenerative occupational diseases of the lumbar spine. These include the measurement of intervertebral osteochondrosis and classification of vertebral osteosclerosis, antero-lateral and posterior spondylosis, and spondyloarthritis via plain (...) osteochondrosis and classification of vertebral osteosclerosis showed adequate inter- and intra-observer reliability in the assessment of occupational diseases of the lumbar spine, whereas the classification of antero-lateral and posterior spondylosis and spondyloarthritis stage exhibited insufficient reliability. Hence, we recommend the revision of the DGUV recommendations for the evaluation of occupational diseases of the lumbar spine.

is primarily used for the treatment of patients with indications of disc herniation, degenerative disc disease, spondylosis, and cervical spondylotic myelopathy (CSM). ACDF surgery can be divided into distinct steps. The first involves anterior exposure to the affected disc spaces, the second involves decompression of the neural structures, and the last step involves placement of an interbody spacer. or fragmentectomy, is that RLDH is less likely to occur if all of the nuclear material is removed. However, studies have suggested that sacrificing the supporting nuclear material to control RLDH risk could lead to disc space collapse that can translate to spondylosis, abnormal facet loading, and significant back or leg pain . The potential tradeoffs of these surgical techniques have left an apparent treatment gap for discectomy patients with large annular defects and a lack of consensus regarding the optimal (...) and observed a lower incidence of RLDH with subtotal discectomy . In contrast to limited discectomy, subtotal discectomy has also been associated with significantly worse leg and back pain . The liberal removal of the nucleus with aggressive discectomy techniques could accelerate disc space collapse, resulting in spondylosis, abnormal facet loading, and recurrent pain . This trade-off suggests that the two techniques may have different advantages and disadvantages, but both may leave large annular defect

Facet joint cyst haematoma: a rare cause of cauda equina syndrome. Facet joint cysts are a feature of lumbar spondylosis and are an uncommon cause of radiculopathy. Facet joint cyst haematoma is a very rare entity and has previously been reported as a subacute cause of leg pain, back pain, sensory deficit and lower limb weakness. We present the unique case of facet joint cyst haematoma presenting as cauda equina syndrome. An 81 year old lady presented with a 7 day history of back pain and left

337. X Collar versus conventional cervical collar

: Malaysian Health Technology Assessment (MaHTAS). Technology Review Report 004/2013. 2013 Authors' objectives To assess the safety, efficacy/effectiveness and cost-effectiveness of X Collar compared with conventional cervical collar for managing cervical problem such as cervical injury, cervical spondylosis and cervical sprain and strain. Authors' conclusions There was no retrieval clinical study conducted among patients with cervical problems to support evidence on the safety, efficacy/effectiveness (...) and cost-effectiveness of X Collar compared with conventional cervical collar for management of cervical problem such as cervical injury, cervical spondylosis and cervical sprain and strain. However, there was a laboratory study conducted among healthy volunteers without cervical problem showed that X Collar provided more superior cervical stabilization in both seated and supine positions on the backboard without manual cervical stabilization when compared with conventional cervical collars
