141. Systemic nodular panniculitis with cardiac involvement Full Text available with Trip Pro

Systemic nodular panniculitis with cardiac involvement A case of systemic nodular panniculitis is described in which the myocardium was found at necropsy to be extensively involved with focal interstitial carditis, identical histologically with nodules of panniculitis biopsied from the skin. This degree of myocardial involvement, which was not apparent during life and was not confined to pericardial or myocardial adipose tissue, has not previously been reported. The literature relating (...) to nodular panniculitis is briefly reviewed and the concept of Weber-Christian disease critically re-appraised.

150. Cutaneous and mucous mucormycosis mimicking pancreatic panniculitis and gouty panniculitis. (Abstract)

Cutaneous and mucous mucormycosis mimicking pancreatic panniculitis and gouty panniculitis. Histopathologic study of lesions of cutaneous mucormycosis usually shows suppurative granulomas involving the deep dermis and subcutaneous fat. Large, broad and non-septate fungal hyphae are easily identified within the necrotic areas. The main goal of our study is to describe the histopathologic features of 13 cases of cutaneo-mucous mucormycosis, which mimicked the findings of pancreatic and/or gouty (...) panniculitis and discuss the histopathologic differential diagnosis among these 3 disorders.Histopathologic examination of sections stained with hematoxylin-eosin, periodic acid-Schiff (PAS), Gomori methenamine, and Grocott stains. All sections were examined under polarized light. One case was immunohistochemically studied with anti-BCG antibody.Histopathologically, the most striking feature consisted of the presence of groups of necrotic adipocytes lacking nuclei and large cytoplasm with pale basophilic

152. Pancreatic Panniculitis Associated with Acinar Cell Carcinoma of the Pancreas: A Case Report Full Text available with Trip Pro

Pancreatic Panniculitis Associated with Acinar Cell Carcinoma of the Pancreas: A Case Report Pancreatic panniculitis is a rare type of disorder associated with pancreatic diseases. We describe here a case of 54-year-old man who was admitted to the Department of Dermatology with the diagnosis of erythema nodosum. The patient presented with a 9-month history of painful erythematous nodules on the extremities, joint pain and swelling, and weight loss. A highly elevated level of pancreatic lipase (...) lipase returned to normal, and the skin lesions and joint manifestations gradually regressed. However, the swelling did not significantly resolve in the left knee. In view of the non-specific clinical presentation of this disease, clinicians should be alert and have a high index of suspicion for pancreatic panniculitis.

154. Neoplastic/Paraneoplastic dermatitis, fasciitis, and panniculitis. (Abstract)

Neoplastic/Paraneoplastic dermatitis, fasciitis, and panniculitis. The skin changes outlined in this article can be important clues to an underlying malignancy. Paraneoplastic dermatoses are skin disorders associated with an underlying neoplasm and whose course parallels that of the neoplasm. Recognizing these skin presentations leads to early diagnosis and management of the underlying malignancy. Effective treatment of the associated neoplasm often leads to improvement of the cutaneous

Cytophagic Histiocytic Panniculitis after H1N1 Vaccination: A Case Report and Review of the Cutaneous Side Effects of Influenza Vaccines. Cytophagic histiocytic panniculitis (CHP) is a rare disease mostly caused by viral infections and/or lymphoproliferative diseases. We describe a case of CHP associated with H1N1 vaccine during the winter 2009-2010 vaccination campaign and discuss the cutaneous side effects of influenza vaccines. known as Wegener's granulomatosis) and necrotising panniculitis are infrequent complications but can prompt diagnosis. Plasma AAT levels, protein phenotyping (called Pi-typing), and protein genotyping may be necessary for diagnosis. Rare alleles may require gene sequencing. Intravenous AAT augmentation therapy benefits some patients.
