161. Association between intra-hospital uncontrolled glycemia and health outcomes in patients with diabetes: A systematic review of observational studies. (Abstract)

Association between intra-hospital uncontrolled glycemia and health outcomes in patients with diabetes: A systematic review of observational studies. Many people are still affected by uncontrolled glycemic events during hospital admission, what encompasses hypoglycemia, hyperglycemia, and high glycemic variability.Primary studies have shown association of glycemic dysregulation with increased length of hospital stay and with mortality among overall patients, however, there is no systematic (...) , and adverse events. Among the exposure and outcomes, an association was observed between severe hypoglycemia and mortality, hyperglycemia and infection, and hyperglycemia and adverse events.In-hospital uncontrolled glycemia in patients with diabetes is associated with poor health outcomes. More studies should be conducted for better investigation because diabetes is a complex condition. Effects of glycemic dysregulation should be investigated according to overall health instead of the organ target

162. Experimental and observational studies on alcohol use and dietary intake: a systematic review. (Abstract)

Experimental and observational studies on alcohol use and dietary intake: a systematic review. The scientific literature on links among alcohol use, total energy intake, cardiometabolic disease and obesity is conflicting. To clarify the link between alcohol use and cardiometabolic health, this systematic review (PROSPERO CRD42016039308A) uses PRISMA (Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses) guidelines to synthesize how alcohol use affects dietary intake (carbohydrate (...) , fat and protein intake) in humans. A search of Google Scholar, PsycINFO and PubMed from June 2016-March 2019 yielded 30 qualified studies. Experimental and observational studies allowed for inferences about effects of a single drinking occasion and of frequent drinking, respectively. Alcohol quantities were standardized according to the 2015-2020 Dietary Guidelines for Americans. On average, methodological quality of the studies was medium strength. Results indicated that a single occasion

163. Association between blood pressure and risk of cancer development: a systematic review and meta-analysis of observational studies. (Full text)

Association between blood pressure and risk of cancer development: a systematic review and meta-analysis of observational studies. With the exception of renal cell carcinoma, studies assessing the association between hypertension and other cancers are inconsistent. We conducted a meta-analysis to assess this evidence. We included observational studies investigating the association between any definition of hypertension or systolic and diastolic blood pressure and risk of any cancer, after (...) searching PubMed until November 2017. We calculated summary relative risks (RR) and 95% confidence intervals (CI) using inverse-variance weighted random effects methods. A total of 148 eligible publications were identified out of 39,891 initially screened citations. Considering only evidence from 85 prospective studies, positive associations were observed between hypertension and kidney, colorectal and breast cancer. Positive associations between hypertension and risk of oesophageal adenocarcinoma

164. The impact of maternal lifestyle factors on periconception outcomes: a systematic review of observational studies. (Full text)

The impact of maternal lifestyle factors on periconception outcomes: a systematic review of observational studies. The main risk factors for important reproductive health issues such as subfertility and perinatal mortality largely originate in the periconception period. To evaluate associations between modifiable maternal lifestyle factors and periconception outcomes, a systematic search was conducted for relevant studies published from 1990 to February 2017 on Embase, Medline, Web of Science (...) was found to be increased in smokers, alcohol and caffeine consumers, and with increasing BMI. Vitamin supplement use showed a decrease in this risk. This review demonstrates that maternal modifiable lifestyle factors affect periconception outcomes. If couples planning a pregnancy are more aware and supported to adopt healthy lifestyles during the periconceptional 'window of opportunity', short-term reproductive health as well as health in later life and even of future generations can be further

166. Dietary Total Antioxidant Capacity and Risk of Gastrointestinal Cancers: A Systematic Review and Meta-analysis of Observational Studies. (Abstract)

Dietary Total Antioxidant Capacity and Risk of Gastrointestinal Cancers: A Systematic Review and Meta-analysis of Observational Studies. Gastrointestinal (GI) cancers are common types of cancers. Among different factors that affect the etiology of GI cancers, diet has an important contribution. Dietary antioxidants decrease oxidative stress which plays a pivotal role in carcinogenesis. Several studies assessed the relation between dietary total antioxidant capacity (TAC) and risk of GI cancers (...) cancer risk estimates for dietary TAC were included. We ignored the distinction between case-control and cohort studies. We applied random-effects to estimate pooled relative risks. Subgroup analysis was done based on study design.Among the seven observational studies that were included, four were cohort studies and three were case-control studies. Dietary FRAP, TRAP, and TEAC reduced GI cancer risk: FRAP; 0.71; 95% CI: 0.58-0.85, TRAP; 0.65; 95% CI: 0.57-0.75, TEAC; 0.70; 95% CI: 0.59-0.83
