How to Trip Rapid Review

Step 1: Select articles relevant to your search (remember the system is only optimised for single intervention studies)

Step 2: press

Step 3: review the result, and maybe amend the or if you know better! If we're unsure of the overall sentiment of the trial we will display the conclusion under the article title. We then require you to tell us what the correct sentiment is.

141. Concentration Levels and Ecological Risks of Persistent Organic Pollutants in the Surface Sediments of Tianjin Coastal Area, China (PubMed)

sediments, PAHs exhibited risks to benthonic organisms; particularly the concentrations of naphthalene and/or acenaphthene exceeded their probable effect concentrations in several locations. In comparison, only in the Dagu waste discharging river, OCPs exhibited risks with the concentrations of heptachlor epoxide and lindane exceeding their probable effect concentrations. PCBs and PBDEs posed rare risks in the studied area.

142. Evaluation of calabash chalk effect on femur bone morphometry and mineralization in young wistar rats: A pilot study (PubMed)

Evaluation of calabash chalk effect on femur bone morphometry and mineralization in young wistar rats: A pilot study Calabash chalk, a popularly consumed geophagic material in Nigeria has been reported to contain lead, arsenic, alpha lindane, endrin, and endosulfan 11 among other pollutants. The continuous exposure of young children to this chalk necessitated this study on the bone morphometry and mineralization in young Wistar rats.Fourteen young (weanling) Wistar rats of both sexes weighing 54

exerted by the mixtures of chemicals. This population-based study was designed to evaluate the profile of mixtures of organochlorines detected in 103 healthy women and 121 women diagnosed with breast cancer from Gran Canaria Island, and the relation between the exposure to these compounds and breast cancer risk. The most prevalent mixture of organochlorines among healthy women was the combination of lindane and endrin, and this mixture was not detected in any affected women. Breast cancer patients

in the gas phase. The mean concentration of OCPs in the gas phase was significantly higher in the summer than in the winter. Seventeen types of OCPs were detected in the particle phase with a total concentration of 18.3 ± 26.1 pg/m³. DDTs were major OCPs in the particle phase. The mean concentration of OCPs in the particle phase decreased at first and then increased during the period. The potential source of the HCHs in ambient air of Lake Chaohu might come from recent lindane usage. DDTs mainly came

proportions of the OCPs. The spatial pollution followed the order of Central Lakes > Western Lakes > Eastern Lakes and water area. The sources of the HCHs were mainly from the historical usage of lindane. DDTs were degraded under aerobic conditions, and the main sources were from the use of technical DDTs. The ecological risks of 5 OCPs were assessed by the species sensitivity distribution (SSD) method in the order of heptachlor > γ-HCH > p,p'-DDT > aldrin > endrin. The combining risks of all sampling

148. Resistance of the housefly (Musca domestica L.) to insecticides in Egypt (PubMed)

Resistance of the housefly (Musca domestica L.) to insecticides in Egypt Housefly resistance to DDT and lindane in Egypt was first reported 17 years ago, yet these insecticides continue to be used. The present degree of housefly resistance to DDT and lindane was found to be high, and cross-resistance to dieldrin was discovered. An analysis of dieldrin resistance was made, and it was found that a single selection with dieldrin at a high selection pressure resulted in a homozygous resistant strain

acre (2.5 kg/hectare) is also highly effective, but less so than dieldrin. Lindane at the rate of about 5 lb per acre (5.7 kg/hectare) ranks third, but offers protection for only about 2 months. Because of the potential hazards to wildlife when such long-acting compounds are used, application of organophosphorous or carbamate insecticides may be used instead in areas where reapplication every few weeks is feasible. Fenthion and arprocarb are promising compounds for this purpose.

Mosquitos were not disturbed by exposure to the vapour from deposits of any of the compounds. The rates of action of the different compounds following

151. Effects of Pesticides on Nitrite Oxidation by Nitrobacter agilis (PubMed)

Effects of Pesticides on Nitrite Oxidation by Nitrobacter agilis The influence of pesticides on the growth of Nitrobacter agilis in aerated cultures and on the respiration of N. agilis cell suspensions and cell-free extracts was studied. Two pesticides, aldrin and simazine, were not inhibitory to growth of Nitrobacter, but five compounds [isopropyl N-(3-chlorophenyl) carbamate (CIPC), chlordane, 1,1-dichloro-2,2-bis (p-chlorophenyl) ethane (DDD), heptachlor, and lindane] prevented growth when (...) added to the medium at a concentration of 10 mug/ml. Whereas CIPC and eptam prevented nitrite oxidation by cell suspensions, the addition of DDD and lindane resulted in only partial inhibition of the oxidation. Heptachlor and chlordane also caused only partial inhibition of oxidation, but were more toxic with cell-free extract nitrite oxidase. None of the pesticides inhibited the nitrate reductase activity of cell-free extracts, but most caused some repression of cytochrome c oxidase activity
