How to Trip Rapid Review

Step 1: Select articles relevant to your search (remember the system is only optimised for single intervention studies)

Step 2: press

Step 3: review the result, and maybe amend the or if you know better! If we're unsure of the overall sentiment of the trial we will display the conclusion under the article title. We then require you to tell us what the correct sentiment is.

2701. Topical tretinoin for treatment of photodamaged skin. A multicenter study. (Abstract)

with improvement in 48% of the vehicle-treated control subjects. Significant reductions were found in fine wrinkling, mottled hyperpigmentation, roughness, and laxity after 0.05% tretinoin therapy when compared with controls. In addition, histologic changes of increased epidermal thickness, decreased melanin content, and stratum corneum compaction provide independent evidence supporting clinical improvement. Side effects of erythema, peeling, and stinging were usually mild and well tolerated.

photographs. Fine wrinkling, coarse wrinkling, sallowness, looseness, and hyperpigmentation were significantly improved with tretinoin therapy. Furthermore, a self-appraisal questionnaire indicated that tretinoin-treated patients, but not vehicle-treated patients, were able to perceive improvement in their facial appearance. An objective method based on digital image processing of silicone rubber casts obtained from the crow's-feet area also indicated that the skin surface topography was smoother and less

2704. Topical tretinoin improves the appearance of photo damaged skin. (Abstract)

in clinical signs of photodamage and parameters of cutaneous irritation were assessed by investigators using a 7 point scale, whilst changes in signs of photodamage were rated by subjects using a 5 point scale. Changes in skin biopsies and silicone skin surface replicas were also assessed. Significant improvements in skin wrinkles, mottled hyperpigmentation, laxity, lentigines and roughness of tretinoin treated subjects were noted by investigators. Subjects receiving tretinoin noted significant

2705. The degrees of UVB-induced erythema and pigmentation correlate linearly and are reduced in a parallel manner by topical anti-inflammatory agents. (Abstract)

The degrees of UVB-induced erythema and pigmentation correlate linearly and are reduced in a parallel manner by topical anti-inflammatory agents. To examine whether it is possible to evaluate the degree of ultraviolet B (UVB)-induced inflammation by measuring the degree of hyperpigmentation, we investigated the relationship between UVB-induced erythema and the subsequent pigmentation quantitatively. At 24 h and 7 d after irradiation with erythemogenic doses of UVB to the backs of 16 Japanese (...) = 0.63), suggesting that more efficient melanogenesis takes place after the same level of inflammation in the subject with darker skin. Both erythema and hyperpigmentation were suppressed significantly and in a parallel manner by corticosteroids and indomethacin applied topically immediately after UVB irradiation. These results imply that the post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation correlates closely with the severity of the prior inflammation and that chemical mediators released in the inflammatory

at higher energy fluences. Responses were more variable with other lesions, with fair-to-good improvement noted in most cases. Mild, transient erythema; hypopigmentation; and hyperpigmentation were noted in several patients, but resolved spontaneously within 3 months. No other textural changes, scarring, or other side effects were noted. The frequency-doubled Q-switched Nd: YAG laser (532 nm) safely and effectively treats benign epidermal pigmented lesions.

2708. Topical retinoic acid (tretinoin) for melasma in black patients. A vehicle-controlled clinical trial. (Abstract)

Topical retinoic acid (tretinoin) for melasma in black patients. A vehicle-controlled clinical trial. Melasma is an acquired, masklike, facial hyperpigmentation. The pathogenesis and treatment of melasma in black (African-American) patients is poorly understood. We investigated the efficacy of topical 0.1% all-trans-retinoic acid (tretinoin) in the treatment of melasma in black patients. Twenty-eight of 30 black patients with melasma completed a 10-month, randomized, vehicle-controlled clinical

2709. Topical tretinoin (retinoic acid) treatment of hyperpigmented lesions associated with photoaging in Chinese and Japanese patients: a vehicle-controlled trial. (Abstract)

Topical tretinoin (retinoic acid) treatment of hyperpigmented lesions associated with photoaging in Chinese and Japanese patients: a vehicle-controlled trial. Hyperpigmented lesions are a predominant component of photoaging in Chinese and Japanese persons. Topical 0.1% tretinoin cream improves the hyperpigmentation associated with photoaging in Caucasian persons. Our purpose was to assess the efficacy of 0.1% tretinoin cream treatment of hyperpigmented lesions associated with photoaging (...) , colorimetric, and histologic evaluation, 0.1% tretinoin cream significantly lightens the hyperpigmentation of photoaging in Chinese and Japanese patients.

On the forearms, after 22 weeks, treatment with glycolic acid cream was superior to the vehicle in improving the overall severity of photodamage and sallowness (P < .05). L-Lactic acid cream was significantly superior to the vehicle in reducing the overall severity of photodamage (P < .05), mottled hyperpigmentation (P < .05), sallowness (P < .05), and roughness on the forearms (P < .05) at week 22.Topical 8% glycolic acid and 8% L-lactic acid creams

2712. Glycolic acid peels in the treatment of melasma among Asian women. (Abstract)

Glycolic acid peels in the treatment of melasma among Asian women. Melasma is a common disorder of facial hyperpigmentation among Asian women. Many modalities of treatment are available but none is satisfactory. This study was undertaken to see if glycolic acid peels are effective and safe in the treatment of melasma and fine facial wrinkling.Ten Asian women with moderate to severe melasma were recruited into the study. The women had twice daily applications of a cream containing 10% glycolic

The apparent melanin concentration, corresponding to diffuse hyperpigmentation, showed a large seasonal decrease in both the control and the treated sites, with an additional decrease in the treated sites between 12 and 18 weeks. Erythema appeared after repeated applications and eventually resolved under continuous treatment. The maximum decrease in hyperpigmentation occurred simultaneously with the maximum increase

deposition and reduction of pretreatment solar elastosis. Posttreatment facial erythema was noted in half the patients for up to 2 months; transient hyperpigmentation was observed in one third of the treated areas.Although the SilkTouch system produced more immediate thermal damage, there were no significant differences in efficacy or adverse effects between the lasers. Our results suggest that both laser systems, used with appropriate settings, are capable of safely smoothing the skin surface.

No significant difference was found between vehicle and tretinoin emollient cream 0.01% or 0.001%. Histologic examination showed increases in epidermal and granular layer thickness, decreased melanin content and compaction of the stratum corneum after therapy with tretinoin emollient cream 0.05% or 0.01%. not statistically significant (p > 0.05). The preschool children tended to have higher anti-HBs concentrations than the infants. No clinically serious adverse effects were observed in both vaccine groups; however, induration and hyperpigmentation at the injection site were more often seen in the study population that was vaccinated intradermally. We conclude that intradermal administration of 2 micrograms recombinant hepatitis B vaccine is safe and effective in infants and preschool children, and may
