101. Postnatal experiences, knowledge and perceptions of women with gestational diabetes. (PubMed)

Postnatal experiences, knowledge and perceptions of women with gestational diabetes. Women with gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) are at increased risk of Type 2 diabetes. This study aimed to explore experiences, knowledge and perceptions of women with GDM to inform the design of interventions to prevent or delay Type 2 diabetes.Semi-structured interviews were carried out with 16 women with GDM who were recruited from a clinic in one Scottish health board. A framework approach was used (...) to manage and analyse data according to themes informed by psychological theory (self-regulation model and theory of planned behaviour).GDM is not seen as an important, or even real diagnosis among some women, and this perception may result from the perceived minimal impact of GDM on their lives. Some women did experience a bigger emotional and practical impact. Knowledge and understanding of Type 2 diabetes was poor in general and many women were unconcerned about their future risk. Lower concern

2008-2016 was observed. Maternal smoking, multiple delivery and substandard antenatal care were the strongest additional predictors of both early perinatal mortality and malformations for mothers with pre-gestational diabetes. The respective risks were lower and also decreased over time for mothers with gestational diabetes. No significant improvement has been achieved in the management of pregnancies affected by pre-gestational diabetes during the last decade. The apparent risk reductions in women (...) No further improvement in pregnancy-related outcomes in the offspring of mothers with pre-gestational diabetes in Bavaria, Germany, between 2001 and 2016. , is a fallacy. Different drugs provide certain benefits but not all the benefits and not to all patients. In addition, the steps in the gestational diabetes mellitus management decision path and the current cost of the use of insulin, glyburide, or metformin are addressed. In the future, we must consider studying the potential of diabetic drugs that currently are used in nonpregnancy and incorporating the concept of precision medicine in the decision tree to maximize pregnancy outcomes.Copyright © 2018 (...) Pharmacological treatment of gestational diabetes mellitus: point/counterpoint. Controversies persist over the most efficacious pharmacologic treatment for gestational diabetes mellitus. different occasions: during pregnancy (gestational weeks 34-38), and 3 and 14 months after delivery managed at an in-hospital diabetes specialist clinic in Sweden.Beliefs were rather stable over time and mainly related to individual and social factors. GDM was perceived as a transient condition as health professionals had informed about it, which made them calm. None, except one, expressed worries about relapse and the health of the baby. Instead women worried about being unable to live an ordinary life (...) A qualitative study of developing beliefs about health, illness and healthcare in migrant African women with gestational diabetes living in Sweden. Gestational diabetes (GDM) is associated with health risks for both mother and child, and is particularly relevant to migrant women and women of African origin. 106. Development and Evaluation of a Mobile Personalized Blood Glucose Prediction System for Patients With Gestational Diabetes Mellitus (PubMed)

Development and Evaluation of a Mobile Personalized Blood Glucose Prediction System for Patients With Gestational Diabetes Mellitus Personalized blood glucose (BG) prediction for diabetes patients is an important goal that is pursued by many researchers worldwide. Despite many proposals, only a few projects are dedicated to the development of complete recommender system infrastructures that incorporate BG prediction algorithms for diabetes patients. The development and implementation (...) of such a system aided by mobile technology is of particular interest to patients with gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM), especially considering the significant importance of quickly achieving adequate BG control for these patients in a short period (ie, during pregnancy) and a typically higher acceptance rate for mobile health (mHealth) solutions for short- to midterm usage. This study was conducted with the objective of developing infrastructure comprising data processing algorithms, BG prediction models
