1. Mini-incisional entropion repair for correcting involutional entropion: Full description and surgical outcome. (PubMed)

Mini-incisional entropion repair for correcting involutional entropion: Full description and surgical outcome. The aim of the study was to report the surgical outcome of mini-incisional correction method to treat involutional entropion. This is a retrospective interventional case series of 46 eyelids in 31 patients with involutional entropion and significant ocular irritation. In this technique, after turning the lower eyelid inside out, threads are introduced into it through the conjunctiva (...) close to the inferior fornix. The lower lid retractor and tarsus are then connected using threads. These threads are applied at 3 locations of the lower eyelid and tightening them results in the eyelid being everted and the correction of entropion. Surgical success was defined as no contact between the eyelashes and the globe during forced closure of the eyelids. Surgical failure was defined as persistence of the eyelashes remaining in contact with the globe or cosmetic dissatisfaction.During

This causes inward rotation of the tarsal plate on lid closure Cicatricial Severe scarring and contraction

3. A comparison of the lateral tarsal strip with everting sutures and the Quickert procedure for involutional entropion. (PubMed)

A comparison of the lateral tarsal strip with everting sutures and the Quickert procedure for involutional entropion. To provide evidence of statistically significant difference in the surgical outcome of the lateral tarsal strip with everting sutures (LTS + ES) versus the Quickert procedure (QP) in the treatment of involutional entropion. In a prospective randomized comparative trial, 66 eyelids of 52 patients with primary involutional lower eyelid entropion were recruited. Thirty-six eyelids (...) were randomized to QP, and 30 eyelids were randomized to LTS + ES. Surgery was performed by a single surgeon. Postoperative follow-up was scheduled after 2 weeks, 8 and 14 months. Successful surgery was defined as a normal eyelid position at rest and inability to induce entropion on forced eyelid closure at or before the 14-month follow-up visit.A total of 66 eyelids of 52 patients were enrolled in the study. Three patients did not complete follow-up (1 did not attend the 8 months follow-up visit

5. Bedside repair of congenital upper eyelid entropion: A variation of the Quickert suture technique (PubMed)

Bedside repair of congenital upper eyelid entropion: A variation of the Quickert suture technique The current literature is void of any lasting bedside treatments for congenital upper eyelid entropion repair.A six-day old male was born with bilateral upper eyelid entropion associated with a duplication of the long arm of chromosome 3q11.1-q24. Conservative management with ocular lubrication and observation did not yield spontaneous resolution, and surgical intervention was performed (...) at the bedside with a Quickert suture technique. We discuss the novel use of this technique and review the relevant literature. Our technique is something not previously described in the literature for congenital upper eyelid entropion. It obtained satisfactory and sustained resolution.

9. Interventions for involutional lower lid entropion. (PubMed)

Interventions for involutional lower lid entropion. Entropion is a condition in which the eyelid margin turns in against the eyeball. Involutional or senile entropion is one of the most common lower lid malpositions in the elderly. The interventions described and currently used for the treatment of this condition are surgical in nature, although non-surgical temporary medical treatment for the early stages of entropion has also been reported. The relative effectiveness of these interventions (...) has not yet been resolved. To examine the effect of interventions for involutional entropion and to assess whether any method is superior to any other. We searched CENTRAL (which contains the Cochrane Eyes and Vision Group Trials Register) (The Cochrane Library 2011, Issue 10), MEDLINE (January 1950 to November 2011), EMBASE (January 1980 to November 2011), the metaRegister of Controlled Trials (mRCT) (www.controlled-trials.com),ClinicalTrials.gov (http://clinicaltrials.gov) and the WHO

13. Modified lateral tarsal strip for involutional entropion and ectropion surgery. (PubMed)

Modified lateral tarsal strip for involutional entropion and ectropion surgery. Our purpose was to assess our outcomes in involutional lower eyelid ectropion and entropion surgery after horizontal eyelid tightening by a modified tarsal strip technique.A prospective study of 88 eyelids with ectropion and 96 with entropion was performed. Patients were randomly distributed into two groups: the control group included 90 eyelids (46 entropion and 44 ectropion) and the other group of 94 eyelids (50 (...) entropion and 44 ectropion). The control group was treated with a conventional tarsal strip, whereas the second group underwent the same surgery except for a modified suture placement of the tarsal strip different in patients with ectropion and entropion. The mean follow-up was 5.4 years. Horizontal eyelid laxity, orbicularis muscle and lower eyelid retractors function were measured prior and after surgery. Recurrence rate was also evaluated.Recurrent entropion occurred in eight eyelids (17.4 %) treated

15. Modified tarsotomy for the treatment of severe cicatricial entropion (PubMed)

Modified tarsotomy for the treatment of severe cicatricial entropion PurposeTo analyze the efficacy of modified tarsotomy for the management of severe cicatricial entropion.MethodsTwenty-seven eyelids of 18 patients who underwent modified tarsotomy between March 2011 and July 2013 were retrospectively assessed. The data collected included patient demographics, etiology of cicatricial entropion, and surgical history. Outcome measures included surgical success rate, preoperative and postoperative (...) eyelid position, and surgery-related complications.ResultsMean follow-up time was 13.2 months (range, 6-25.4 months), and the success rate was 81.8% (22 of 27 eyelids). Complications included eyelid margin notching (n=1) and blepharoptosis secondary to avascular necrosis of the distal marginal fragment (n=1), both were corrected by minor surgical intervention.ConclusionsThe study findings suggest modified tarsotomy is effective for the correction of severe cicatricial entropion.

20. Genome-Wide Association Identifies SLC2A9 and NLN Gene Regions as Associated with Entropion in Domestic Sheep (PubMed)

Genome-Wide Association Identifies SLC2A9 and NLN Gene Regions as Associated with Entropion in Domestic Sheep Entropion is an inward rolling of the eyelid allowing contact between the eyelashes and cornea that may lead to blindness if not corrected. Although many mammalian species, including humans and dogs, are afflicted by congenital entropion, no specific genes or gene regions related to development of entropion have been reported in any mammalian species to date. Entropion in domestic sheep (...) is known to have a genetic component therefore, we used domestic sheep as a model system to identify genomic regions containing genes associated with entropion. A genome-wide association was conducted with congenital entropion in 998 Columbia, Polypay, and Rambouillet sheep genotyped with 50,000 SNP markers. Prevalence of entropion was 6.01%, with all breeds represented. Logistic regression was performed in PLINK with additive allelic, recessive, dominant, and genotypic inheritance models. Two genome
