6. Psychiatric disability as mediator of the neurocognition-functioning link in schizophrenia spectrum disorders: SEM analysis using the Evaluation of Cognitive Processes involved in Disability in Schizophrenia (ECPDS) scale. (PubMed)

Psychiatric disability as mediator of the neurocognition-functioning link in schizophrenia spectrum disorders: SEM analysis using the Evaluation of Cognitive Processes involved in Disability in Schizophrenia (ECPDS) scale. The functional outcome in schizophrenia spectrum disorders is affected by multiple factors such as cognitive performance and clinical symptoms. Psychiatric disability may be another important determinant of functional outcome. The purpose of this study was to test whether (...) schizophrenia symptoms and psychiatric disability mediated the association between cognition and functioning. Between April 2013 and July 2017, we included 108 community-dwelling adults with stable schizophrenia spectrum disorder in a multicenter study. Psychiatric disability was assessed with the Evaluation of Cognitive Processes involved in Disability in Schizophrenia (ECPDS) scale by relatives of patients. ECPDS focused on the broad array of motivational, neurocognitive, sociocognitive, and metacognitive

8. Evaluating Disability Insurance Assistance as a Specific Intervention by Physiatrists at a Cancer Center (PubMed)

Evaluating Disability Insurance Assistance as a Specific Intervention by Physiatrists at a Cancer Center Because of their expertise, physiatrists provide disability insurance assistance for cancer survivors. In this brief report, we perform a descriptive retrospective analysis of all new (354) outpatient physiatry consultations from January 1, 2009, to December 31, 2013, at a National Cancer Institute Comprehensive Cancer Center. Disability and/or work accommodations were brought up at some (...) point with the physiatrist during the duration of their care for 131 (37%) of 354 patients. More than 90% of the discussions took place during the first visit. Of those patients who had a documented disability/employment discussion, 58 (44.3%) of 131 patients were originally referred for disability assistance specifically, and 58 (44.3%) of 131 also had disability insurance paperwork completed by the physiatrist. Outcomes of initial physiatry disability insurance assistance were 45 (77.6%) of 58

Item response theory analysis to evaluate reliability and minimal clinically important change of the roland-morris disability questionnaire in patients with severe disability due to back pain from vertebral compression fractures. Depending on methodology, MCID estimates ranged from 2 to 8 points and the proportion of patients classified as having experienced meaningful improvement ranged from 26% to 68%. A greater change

13. Process evaluation of a cluster-randomised controlled trial of multi-component weight management programme in adults with intellectual disabilities and obesity. (PubMed)

Process evaluation of a cluster-randomised controlled trial of multi-component weight management programme in adults with intellectual disabilities and obesity. Providing effective weight management to adults with intellectual disabilities is necessary to challenge the high rates of obesity. The aim of this process evaluation was to explore the feasibility of conducting a full-scale clinical trial of the TAKE 5 multi-component weight management programme. The study was a 12-month pilot cluster (...) -randomised controlled trial. Adults with intellectual disabilities and obesity were randomised to either TAKE 5, which included an energy deficit diet (EDD) or Waist Winners Too, based on health education principles. A mixed-methods process evaluation was conducted focussing on the reach, recruitment, fidelity, implementation, dose (delivered/received) and context. The study successfully recruited adults with intellectual disabilities. Both weight management programmes were delivered with high fidelity

Evaluating Mean Level and Within-Person Consistency in Migraine Pain Intensity and Migraine-Related Disability for AVP-825 vs Oral Sumatriptan: Results from the COMPASS Study, A Randomized Trial. We applied a novel analytic approach for measuring consistency (...) to treat up to 5 migraine attacks with each treatment and recorded migraine pain intensity and disability data at pre-dose and 10, 15, 30, 45, 60, 90, and 120 minutes post-dose for each attack. The reproducibility of psychiatric evaluations of work disability: two reliability and agreement studies. Expert psychiatrists conducting work disability evaluations often disagree on work capacity (WC) when assessing the same patient. Three psychiatrists per patient estimated WC from videotaped evaluations. We analysed reliability (intraclass correlation coefficients

An earlier study found an educational intervention did not appear to have any significant positive impact on dental students’ attitudes to people with disabilities .
