2. Efficacy and adverse reactions of methotrexate in the treatment of ocular cicatricial pemphigoid: A case series study. (PubMed)

Efficacy and adverse reactions of methotrexate in the treatment of ocular cicatricial pemphigoid: A case series study. The application of methotrexate (MTX) in the treatment of autoimmune diseases has been gradually increasing, but reports of MTX treatment for advanced ocular cicatricial pemphigoid (OCP) are extremely rare. This study investigated the efficacy and adverse reactions of low-dose MTX in patients with OCP.This was a retrospective, noncontrolled, case series study. Eleven patients

3. Ocular cicatricial pemphigoid. (PubMed)

Ocular cicatricial pemphigoid. This review offers recommendations for monitoring disease status in ocular cicatricial pemphigoid as well therapeutic options including local and systemic therapies.A negative biopsy on direct immunofluorescence does not preclude a diagnosis of OCP. If a patient's cicatrization is active and/or progressive, systemic immunosuppression should be commenced.OCP is a chronic systemic autoimmune disease that requires systemic immunosuppression.

7. Update on Ocular Cicatricial Pemphigoid and Emerging Treatments. (PubMed)

Update on Ocular Cicatricial Pemphigoid and Emerging Treatments. Mucous membrane pemphigoid is a systemic disorder that primarily affects mucous membranes. When localized to the conjunctiva, it is known as ocular cicatricial pemphigoid, a potentially blinding disease. Ocular cicatricial pemphigoid is an indication for systemic immunosuppressive treatment to achieve adequate remission. Immunosuppressive agents are selected with a "stepladder" approach, commencing with medications having

NGF Modulates trkANGFR/p75NTR in αSMA-Expressing Conjunctival Fibroblasts from Human Ocular Cicatricial Pemphigoid (OCP) In a previous study, we reported the upregulation of Nerve Growth Factor (NGF) and trkANGFR expression in Ocular Cicatricial Pemphigoid (OCP), an inflammatory and remodeling eye disease. Herein, we hypothesize a potential NGF-driven mechanism on fibroblasts (FBs) during OCP remodeling events. To verify, human derived OCP-FBs were isolated and characterized either at baseline

20. Hypopharyngeal presentation of cicatricial pemphigoid: videofluorographic and direct laryngoscopic findings. (PubMed)

Hypopharyngeal presentation of cicatricial pemphigoid: videofluorographic and direct laryngoscopic findings. Cicatricial pemphigoid can affect all mucosa of the upper aerodigestive tract; however, hypopharyngeal involvement is less frequent. This paper presents a 69-year-old male diagnosed as having cicatricial pemphigoid who was experiencing difficulty swallowing. Videofluorography with barium swallow demonstrated narrow flow through the medial hypopharynx, but not through the lateral (...) hypopharynx. Direct laryngoscopy revealed that the postcricoid hypopharyngeal lumen had become narrow due to circumferential scar formation. Interestingly, detached thin membranous webs were observed beyond the circumferential scar. This report describes important videofluorographic and direct laryngoscopic findings showing rare hypopharyngeal involvement in a case of cicatricial pemphigoid.
