1. Angiokeratomas, not everything is Fabry disease. (PubMed)

Angiokeratomas, not everything is Fabry disease. Angiokeratoma corporis diffusum are benign capillary malformations typically associated with Fabry disease and other lysosomal storage disorders. Only in a few cases they appear in healthy individuals. We carried out an exhaustive review of the literature on angiokeratomas and their main clinical, dermoscopy and histological features. Additionally, we reviewed the cases of healthy subjects illustrating the limitations of each case and comparing (...) these results with our case.Angiokeratoma corporis diffusum is mostly related to Fabry disease and other lysosomal storage disorders. However, some cases may occur in apparently healthy individuals. Therefore, there is a increasing interest in its etiology, pathogenesis and clinical evaluation. This is an academic-clinical review on angiokeratomas and their main implications in daily dermatological practice. Additionally, we report the first case in the literature of angiokeratoma corporis diffusum

2. Laser treatment of cutaneous angiokeratomas: A systematic review. (PubMed)

Laser treatment of cutaneous angiokeratomas: A systematic review. Angiokeratomas can present therapeutic challenges, especially in cases of extensive lesions, where traditional surgical methods carry high risks of scarring and hemorrhage. Argon, pulsed dye (PDL), neodymium-doped yttrium aluminum garnet (Nd:YAG), copper vapor, potassium titanyl phosphate, carbon dioxide, and erbium-doped yttrium aluminum garnet (Er:YAG) lasers have emerged as alternative options. To review the use and efficacy (...) of lasers in treating angiokeratomas. A PubMed search identified randomized clinical trials, cohort studies, case series, and case reports involving laser treatment of cutaneous angiokeratomas. Twenty-five studies were included. Quality ratings were assigned using the Oxford Centre for Evidence-Based Medicine scheme. Several laser modalities are effective in treating multiple variants of angiokeratomas. Vascular lasers like PDL, Nd:YAG, and argon are the most studied and of these, PDL offers the safest

3. Life-threatening bleeding from gastric mucosal angiokeratomas during anticoagulation: A case report of Fabry disease. (PubMed)

Life-threatening bleeding from gastric mucosal angiokeratomas during anticoagulation: A case report of Fabry disease. Angiokeratomas are the earliest manifestation of Fabry disease (FD), and the extent of their appearance is related to disease severity. Angiokeratomas are mostly found on cutaneous regions. Here we report an FD patient with widespread gastrointestinal angiokeratomas who developed life-threatening bleeding following anticoagulation for atrial fibrillation.Careful observation (...) for gastrointestinal bleeding is warranted for patients on anticoagulation with extensive cutaneous angiokeratomas. Furthermore, our experience suggests that surveillance is needed to assess the prevalence and extent of gastrointestinal angiokeratomas in patients with FD.

5. Acral angiokeratoma-like pseudolymphoma in a middle-aged woman (PubMed)

Acral angiokeratoma-like pseudolymphoma in a middle-aged woman Acral angiokeratoma-like pseudolymphoma is a rare type of pseudolymphoma presenting as dark-red papules on the hand or foot. We describe a 59-year-old woman who presented with an unusual unilateral, clustered aggregate of scaly violaceous papules on the toe with an indolent course. Skin biopsy showed a prominent vascular proliferation associated with a dermal infiltrate of monoclonally rearranged T-follicular helper phenotype T (...) -cells, in keeping with CD4+ small/medium T-cell lymphoproliferative disorder (SMPTC-LPD). Based on the unique clinical morphology, distribution of the lesions and dermoscopic appearance, a clinicopathologic diagnosis of acral angiokeratoma-like pseudolymphoma was favored. This case demonstrates the importance of clinicopathological correlation in such diagnostically challenging patients who present with overlapping features on the spectrum of pseudolymphoma and cutaneous T-cell lymphoma.© 2017 John

6. Angiokeratomas Scroti Associated with Angiokeratomas of the Eyelids: Coincidence or One Entity? A Case Report and Review of the Literature. (PubMed)

Angiokeratomas Scroti Associated with Angiokeratomas of the Eyelids: Coincidence or One Entity? A Case Report and Review of the Literature. We describe a unique patient with multiple angiokeratomas on both upper eyelids and on the scrotum. We review the literature and discuss the pathogenetic relationship. Angiokeratomas are described as vascular lesions, which are defined histologically as one or several dilated blood vessel(s) covered by a keratotic layer. They are usually divided into 5 (...) groups: angiokeratoma of Mibelli, Fordyce's angiokeratoma, angiokeratoma corporis diffusum, angiokeratoma circumscriptum naeviforme and solitary angiokeratoma. Angiokeratomas of the eyelid are a very rare finding in the literature, whereas they appear more frequently on the scrotum. The aim of this report is to present a new case of angiokeratomas on the eyelids combined with angiokeratomas of the scrotum. The clinical manifestation and the aetiology of angiokeratomas vary among the subtypes. While

10. Solitary Angiokeratoma: Report of Two Uncommon Cases (PubMed)

Solitary Angiokeratoma: Report of Two Uncommon Cases Angiokeratomas are rare benign vascular skin lesions arising in isolation or in groups of multiple lesions, as solitary cutaneous forms or generalized systemic forms. They are ectasias of dermal capillaries with an acanthotic and hyperkeratotic epidermis. They can occur in both healthy individuals and in those with underlying systemic disease due to inherited enzyme deficiency or other acquired predisposing factors. The identification (...) and reporting of these lesions is important as patients with these lesions should be evaluated to rule out underlying pathogenic conditions. We report two rare cases of isolated solitary cutaneous angiokeratoma occurring in two patients.

15. Expression of lymphatic markers in angiokeratomas. (PubMed)

Expression of lymphatic markers in angiokeratomas. The term angiokeratoma refers to a group of unrelated diseases with similar histopathologic features. Four clinical variants of angiokeratoma have been described. However, it is not known whether some variants of angiokeratoma are of lymphatic origin, and an immunohistochemical study of lymphatic markers has not been previously performed. We performed an immunohistochemical study of angiokeratomas using lymphatic markers. Fifteen cases (...) of angiokeratoma corporis diffusum, 10 cases of Fordyce angiokeratoma, 10 cases of Mibelli angiokeratoma and 10 cases of solitary angiokeratoma were examined by immunohistochemical analysis using CD31, D2-40, Prox1 and Wilms' tumor 1 (WT-1).The vessels of angiokeratoma corporis diffusum, Fordyce angiokeratoma and solitary angiokeratoma were usually focally positive for D2-40 and positive for Prox1, whereas the vessels of Mibelli angiokeratoma were negative for D2-40 and positive for Prox1.The results suggest
