5. Adamantinoma-like Ewing Sarcoma of the Salivary Glands: A Newly Recognized Mimicker of Basaloid Salivary Carcinomas. (PubMed)

distinguishing ALES from basaloid salivary gland carcinomas can be particularly difficult, we analyzed a series of 10 ALESs that occurred in the salivary glands with the aim of identifying features that allow for better recognition of this entity. The salivary ALESs included 8 parotid gland and 2 submandibular gland tumors in patients ranging from 32 to 77 years (mean: 52 y). Nine were initially misclassified as various epithelial neoplasms. Although these tumors displayed the basaloid cytology, rosette (...) formation, infiltrative growth, and nuclear monotony characteristic of ALES, peripheral palisading and overt keratinization were relatively rare in this site. Salivary ALESs not only displayed positivity for AE1/AE3, p40, and CD99, but also demonstrated a higher proportion of synaptophysin reactivity than has been reported for nonsalivary ALESs. These morphologic and immunohistochemical findings make ALES susceptible to misclassification as various other tumors including basal cell adenocarcinoma

Additional information was obtained from the FDA review of this trial, a Cochrane systematic review (Edelman et al, 2005), and two uncontrolled observational studies: a 2-year extension trial involving a subset of the RCT participants (Anderson 2006), and a 1-year uncontrolled observational study

9. Activation of ethylene-responsive p-hydroxyphenylpyruvate dioxygenase leads to increased tocopherol levels during ripening in mango (PubMed)

analysis during different stages of ripening revealed that the gene is ripening related and rapidly induced by ethylene. The increase in MiHPPD transcript accumulation was followed by an increase in tocopherol levels during ripening. The ripening-related increase in MiHPPD expression was also seen in response to abscisic acid and to alesser extent to indole-3-acetic acid. The expression of MiHPPD was not restricted to fruits but was also seen in other tissues such as leaves particularly during

19. Efficacy, cycle control, and side effects of low- and lower-dose oral contraceptives: a randomized trial of 20 micrograms and 35 micrograms estrogen preparations. (PubMed)

Efficacy, cycle control, and side effects of low- and lower-dose oral contraceptives: a randomized trial of 20 micrograms and 35 micrograms estrogen preparations. Estrogen content represents a tradeoff between cycle control and side effects, but few direct comparisons of 20 and 30/35 micrograms preparations are available. To address this issue, we conducted a randomized, open-label multicenter clinical trial comparing Alesse (20 micrograms ethinyl estradiol [EE]), Mircette (20 micrograms EE (...) ), and Ortho Tri-Cyclen (35 micrograms EE) among 463 OC starters or switchers. Bloating, breast tenderness, and nausea were approximately 50% more common in women using 35 micrograms EE as compared to 20 micrograms EE preparations. Cycle control was similar in all products, although during the first two cycles among starters; users of Mircette and Ortho Tri-Cyclen (Tri-Cyclen) exhibited better cycle control than Alesse users. Discontinuation and pregnancy rates were not significantly higher in 35
