361. The role of smoking in the development and progression of structural damage in axial SpA patients: A systematic review and meta-analysis. (Full text)

The role of smoking in the development and progression of structural damage in axial SpA patients: A systematic review and meta-analysis. The objective of this study was to determine whether smoking was associated with the cumulative radiographic spinal damage and radiographic progression in patients with ankylosing spondylitis (AS). Thus, we conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis of the available studies to date.An electronic search was conducted from inception to June 21, 2016 (...) ). No significant heterogeneity was detected between studies (I2=23.0%, p=0.25). The heterogeneity of the longitudinal study data did not permit us to undertake a meta-analysis. Hence, a qualitative review was performed. The results of our meta-analysis show that smoking is associated with increased cumulative spinal structural damage in patients with AS. Therefore, rheumatologists should encourage patients with AS to quit smoking.

364. Balance and Gait Alterations Observed More Than 2 Weeks After Concussion: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis. (Abstract)

Balance and Gait Alterations Observed More Than 2 Weeks After Concussion: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis. The aim of the study was to systematically review and quantitatively synthesize the existing evidence of balance and gait alterations lasting more than 2 wks after concussion in adults.A systematic review was conducted through PubMed, CINAHL, SPORTDiscus, and Web of Science. Investigations must include adult participants with at least one concussion, were measured for 14 days after (...) injury, and reported balance or gait measures. Balance error scoring system scores, center of pressure sway area and displacement, and gait velocity were extracted for the meta-analysis.Twenty-two studies were included. Balance alterations were observed for 2 wks after concussion when participants were tested with eyes closed, for longer durations of time, and with nonlinear regulatory statistics. The meta-analysis of center of pressure sway area with no visual feedback indicated that concussed

Prevalence rate of undiagnosed tuberculosis in the community in Ethiopia from 2001 to 2014: systematic review and meta-analysis. In Ethiopia individual report indicated nearly 30% of incident cases of tuberculosis remained undiagnosed. Therefore, this systematic review and meta-analysis was aimed to determine the pooled prevalence rate of undiagnosed smear positive pulmonary tuberculosis (PTB) using community based studies published in Ethiopia.MEDLINE/PubMed, 'Cochrane' library, and Google (...) scholar databases were searched, and reference list of studies on tuberculosis in Ethiopia were reviewed. We used table to present descriptive information of original studies and quantitative results were presented in forest plots. The Cochrane Q test and I2 test statistic were used to test heterogeneity across studies. The Pooled prevalence and point estimates of undiagnosed smear positive PTB were computed by a random effects model. From the nine studies included in the analysis, the pooled

369. Comparison of anchorage loss between conventional and self-ligating brackets during canine retraction - A systematic review and meta-analysis. (Full text)

Comparison of anchorage loss between conventional and self-ligating brackets during canine retraction - A systematic review and meta-analysis. Anchorage is defined as the resistance to unwanted tooth movement. In orthodontics, loss of anchorage can be detrimental to treatment. The proponents of orthodontic self-ligating brackets (SLB) advocate the use of extremely light forces thereby reducing anchorage burden. Therefore, the aim of this study was to compare anchorage loss during canine (...) was a non-randomized control trial, with 100 subjects included in this systematic review. All studies used a split mouth design. Of the five studies included, only one reported significant differences between CB and SLB for anchorage loss, retraction velocity and total amount of canine retraction (P-value≤0.001). Four studies were included in the meta-analysis, which showed no difference in the amount of anchorage between self-ligating and conventional brackets (weighted mean difference - 0.22; 95% CI

370. Safety and efficiency of endoscopic resection versus laparoscopic resection in gastric gastrointestinal stromal tumours: A systematic review and meta-analysis. (Abstract)

Safety and efficiency of endoscopic resection versus laparoscopic resection in gastric gastrointestinal stromal tumours: A systematic review and meta-analysis. The application of endoscopic resection (ER) in gastric gastrointestinal stromal tumours (GIST) is controversial. We carried out a meta-analysis to compare the safety and efficiency of ER with laparoscopic resection (LR) in patients with gastric GISTs. We searched PubMed to identify studies comparing ER with LR in GIST. The outcomes (...) focused on two areas: safety, including operation time, blood loss, length of hospital stay, time to flatus, time to liquid, time to soft diet, and postoperative complications; and efficiency, including positive margin, recurrence, and long-term survival. A total of 1292 patients from 12 studies were included in the meta-analysis. Patients undergoing ER had a shorter operation time (standardised mean difference [SMD] -1.48, 95% confidence interval [CI] -2.18 to -0.78) and shorter time to soft diet

373. Serum and Cerebrospinal Fluid Levels of S-100β Is A Biomarker for Spinal Cord Injury; a Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis. (Abstract)

Serum and Cerebrospinal Fluid Levels of S-100β Is A Biomarker for Spinal Cord Injury; a Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis. There is controversy regarding the value of serum or cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) levels of S100 calcium-binding protein B (S-100B) in spinal cord injury (SCI). For reaching a general conclusion, the present meta-analysis was designed aiming to evaluate the value of serum and CSF levels of S-100B protein in detecting the presence of SCI in animal studies. An extensive search (...) , the level of this protein was very high (SMD=3.8; 95% CI: 2.6 to 5.1; p<0.0001), but as time passed the serum level of the protein had decreased (SMD=0.4; 95% CI: -1.2 to 2.0; p=0.65). In addition, CSF level of the mentioned protein was very high during the initial 6 hours after injury (SMD: 5.8; 95% CI: 3.6 to 8.0), and this elevated level was still observed until 12 hours after injury (SMD: 6.5; 95% CI: 3.7 to 9.3; p<0.0001).The results of the present systematic review and meta-analysis show

Effect of grape polyphenols on selected inflammatory mediators: A systematic review and meta-analysis randomized clinical trials. Grapes contain different polyphenols and might prevent inflammation by reducing Nitric Oxide (NO) inactivation through antioxidative enzymes. Then, the difference between the two changes was measured and utilized as the effect size in meta-analysis. 9 and 8 articles were included in the systematic review and meta-analysis, respectively. Our results indicated that grape polyphenols did not reduce hs-CRP levels, but omission of one article could lead to a significant reduction in hs-CRP (Weight Mean Difference (WMD): -0.54 mg/L, 95 % CI: -1.02, -0.06; P=0.026, I2=0.0 %). Regarding IL-6 and TNF-α, no significant changes were observed in the intervention
