Awareness of limited joint mobility in type 2 diabetes in general practice in the Netherlands: an online questionnaire survey. Next to the well-known micro- and macrovascular complications, type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) is associated with musculoskeletal disorders of the upper extremities referred to as limited joint mobility (LJM), e.g. carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS) and adhesive capsulitis. Unrecognized and untreated LJM can lead to poor quality of life and non-compliance to diabetes (...) treatment which aggravates LJM. Despite its reported higher prevalence in international prevalence studies, examination of the upper extremities is still no part of the regular diabetes mellitus (DM) check-ups. The primary aim of this study was therefore to evaluate the awareness of Dutch GPs and nurse practitioners concerning LJM. Secondary aims were to evaluate the current management of a patient with LJM, and to assess opinions regarding the question of who should screen for LJM if this is done

192. Medication adherence: A method for designing context-aware reminders. (Abstract)

Medication adherence: A method for designing context-aware reminders. Several interventions have been proposed to improve medication adherence including those using reminders. Context-aware reminders can be effective because they operate when the dose is due, has not been taken, and is still safe to take. Although very promising, we find that there is no method to design context-aware reminders. To address these, we focus on proposing a method to design context-aware reminders. We conducted (...) a systematic review of context-aware reminders for medication adherence using PRISMA approach. The analysis of literature leads to several interesting observations including the need for a method to design context-aware reminders. In this study, we present Method to Design Context-Aware Reminders (MDCAR) that can also meet special requirements. We used domain experts reasoning to evaluate the designed Context-Aware Reminders for Medication Adherence (CARS-MA). Further, we used analytical model to evaluate

194. Visual working memory and saliency independently influence the priority for access to visual awareness. Full Text available with Trip Pro

Visual working memory and saliency independently influence the priority for access to visual awareness. Both visual working memory (VWM) and visual saliency influence sensory processing, as is evident from research on visual attention and visual awareness. It is generally observed that items that are memorized or salient receive priority in visual search and in the access to awareness. Here we investigate whether these two factors interact and together boost access to visual awareness more than (...) each factor independently. In the present experiment, we manipulated the VWM relevance and saliency of an item through a color memorization task and color uniqueness, respectively. We applied continuous flash suppression (CFS) to suppress items from visual awareness. The color of the suppressed items could either be congruent or incongruent with the memorized color, and either stood out from its surrounding distractors (salient pop out) or not. The item's priority for visual awareness was measured

Cost-aware active learning for named entity recognition in clinical text. Active Learning (AL) attempts to reduce annotation cost (ie, time) by selecting the most informative examples for annotation. Most approaches tacitly (and unrealistically) assume that the cost for annotating each sample is identical. This study introduces a cost-aware AL method, which simultaneously models both the annotation cost and the informativeness of the samples and evaluates both via simulation and user studies. We (...) designed a novel, cost-aware AL algorithm (Cost-CAUSE) for annotating clinical named entities; we first utilized lexical and syntactic features to estimate annotation cost, then we incorporated this cost measure into an existing AL algorithm. Using the 2010 i2b2/VA data set, we then conducted a simulation study comparing Cost-CAUSE with noncost-aware AL methods, and a user study comparing Cost-CAUSE with passive learning. Our cost model fit empirical annotation data well, and Cost-CAUSE increased
