Asked 16 Jul 2019
Are there evidence suggesting use of progesterone support for conception in Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS)?
Physiologically speaking, progesterone surge is needed to maintain the endometrium lining for successful implantation of embryo which is deranged in PCOS. Hence, it might be possible to provide progesterone support in young patient with PCOS. Optionally, it would be best that there is research on complementary usage of Clomid ovulation induction strategy with progesterone support. Thanks in advance for sorting out this inquiry.

- Answered 18 Jul 2019 Conflict of interest declaration: None I found three studies that seem relevant to your question. 1) From 2014 Role of luteal phase support on gonadotropin ovulation induction cycles in patients with polycystic ovary syndrome https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/24597283 2) From 2016 Controlled Ovarian Stimulation Using Medroxyprogesterone Acetate and hMG in Patients With Polycystic Ovary Syndrome Treated for IVF: A Double-Blind Randomized Crossover Clinical Trial https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/26945402 3) From 2017 Effect of pretreatment with oral contraceptives and progestins on IVF outcomes in women with polycystic ovary syndrome https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/27999118 These either use progesterone or derivatives. The first paper reports a non-significant improvement and the latter two suggest caution as the results need confirming in larger studies.
