Rotavirus vaccine improves timeliness of DTPa

6minutes news, 2012

The introduction of the three-dose rotavirus vaccine into the NIP schedule has led to more parents turning up on time for their children to receive other vaccines, new research suggests.
A study, published in , involving more than 17,000 children in Melbourne found the introduction of the rotavirus (RotaTeq) vaccine which has strict dosing windows has improved the timeliness of all three doses of the diphtheria, tetanus and pertussis vaccine being given to children.
The study by Dr Wendy Bissinger, Chair of the Easter Region Immunisation Committee,  found that the rotavirus made the most impact on the timeliness of the third dose of the DTPa, which traditionally faces the most delays.
