Electric Therapy in Treating Depression
ClinDX, 2012
One of the ways to treat that has had some recent success in some patients is through ECT other wise known as electroconvulsive therapy.
This method delivers small shocks to the brain in short bursts and low voltage to be able to take the brains bio chemistry pattern and adjust it to where a normal person without depression would be.
It does not work on everyone and the idea of having this treatment not take effect does play a role in the decision not to go ahead with it.
The reason for this is because if you put all your hope in a treatment that may solve the problem and then to only find out that it did not work is very disheartening.
The person will not want to seek anymore treatment because they feel there is no point as it will not work anyway.
Therefore it is important to make sure that the patient is opening minded to all treatments so that they can get the help they need.
