New to TRIP'
For those of you who are new to TRIP, then welcome! This is the launch of TRIP Plus, and we are very pleased to introduce you to the many useful features of this extensive database.

Already a user of TRIP'
Regular users of the existing TRIP will find that many of the suggestions made for improvements over the last few years have been incorporated into TRIP Plus.

TRIP was always free - why do we have to pay for TRIP Plus'
TRIP was initially developed by Jon Brassey in his spare time, to fulfil information needs that he saw as he worked within the NHS (UK). As the number and type of publications searched and referenced has increased over the years, it has taken up more of Jon's time. There are also the costs of hosting and running the web site. Also, there were a number of features that Jon has wanted to add to the product, but needed to charge for.

In the IT world, nothing stays still and, in order to keep pace with developments that users expect and to maintain the high level of quality that the product has established, it is necessary to have some income to sustain it. We have preferred to remain independent of both healthcare products and institutions and to make a small charge to end users.

You can, of course, email us about this as about anything else within the site: info@tripdatabase.com

Will I still be able to use the present TRIP for no charge' A basic version of the present TRIP will continue to exist for at least a while. However, in order to encourage people to subscribe to TRIP, we will be moving some of the features in the process of development such as the Clinical Area entirely to the new site.

Search tips

  • Using only one term can bring back a large number of results, so think of additional terms to help qualify the search e.g. asthma and steroids.
  • Phrase searching is achieved by placing the phrase within quotation marks.
  • In addition to Boolean searching you can also use brackets to enhance the search e.g. ‘(measles OR mumps) and pregnancy’
  • A search term can be stemmed by using the ‘*’ e.g. ‘cancer*’ will find cancer, cancerous etc.
  • On the results page you can filter your results based on an evidence based medicine hierarchy e.g. clinical guidelines, systematic reviews. Use the ‘Filter by’ function on the right-hand side of the screen.
